INTRODUCTION 

Evan Joseph was never meant to become a legend. In his old life, he had enough problems without adding monsters, magic, or saving the world to the list. He was the kind of guy who could find something to complain about in almost any situation, yet somehow still manage to help when it actually mattered. After an unfortunate accident brings his first life to an end, Evan wakes up in a world that should not exist. He is no longer in his own body, but inside that of a seventeen-year-old boy. Even worse, the body is poisoned, his condition is rapidly deteriorating, and he has no idea where he is or what happened before he woke up. There is no explanation waiting for him. No convenient guide. No mysterious old man with a ten-page speech about destiny. Just a strange world, a dying body, and a lot of questions. As Evan struggles to survive, he discovers that this world operates according to rules he never knew existed. Every person possesses a mysterious System that allows them to view their attributes, abilities, skills, and other aspects of their own existence. Strength can be measured. Abilities can be learned. Skills can be developed. Progress can be seen. For the people of this world, the System is simply a part of life. For Evan, it is yet another thing he has to figure out before it kills him. Unfortunately, Evan has never been particularly good at following the path life expects him to take. He isn't a fearless hero, a natural-born leader, or someone desperately searching for power. If anything, he'd prefer to stay alive, avoid unnecessary trouble, and find somewhere peaceful where he can finally mind his own business. The world, however, seems to have other ideas. Strange encounters, dangerous situations, unexpected opportunities, and people far more complicated than they first appear slowly pull Evan deeper into a world filled with magic, monsters, mysteries, and powers he doesn't fully understand. And while everyone around him seems to be busy becoming stronger, chasing their ambitions, or following their own destinies, Evan is mostly trying to figure out why everything keeps going wrong whenever he is involved. He jokes when he should probably be afraid, complains when everyone else is panicking, and occasionally makes decisions that leave even him wondering whether he is brilliant or simply an idiot who got lucky. Yet beneath the sarcasm and bad decisions is someone who refuses to completely turn his back on people who need him. Evan may not want to be important, but that doesn't mean he can always walk away. In a world where everyone has a System, everyone has a path, and power can determine how people are seen, Evan's greatest challenge may not be becoming stronger. It may be figuring out what kind of person he wants to become with a second chance at life. He has no grand plan, no clear destination, and absolutely no idea why his new life began the way it did. But if there's one thing Evan Joseph is already learning, it's that surviving in another world is complicated enough without accidentally becoming famous along the way. And somehow, despite his best efforts, that's exactly what keeps happening.
